The Beat Generation
The beat generation started off as a response to what was going on after World War II. The people that joined the Beat movement frequently questioned society and if one should follow the way life has always been. The most influential people of this time in history were Gary Snyder, the radical poet Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac. On the Road by Jack Kerouac was one of the most influential pieces during this time which faced much controversy. Along with expressing themselves through literature, musicians such as Bob Dylan and The Beatles were impacted by the movement.
With the support of many, these groups of people were able to get their point across. As times were changing, they wanted something different for themselves since the war had ended. This movement has influenced society today because it allows us to think openly and question the actions that are taken. It also played a major role on the anti-war/ hippie movement which shortly followed in the 1960s.
